Android users have long watched with envy as Apple devices seamlessly shift tasks from one to another. FaceTime calls and iMessage chats, for instance, can gracefully transition between iPhones, iPads, and MacBooks, offering incredible flexibility. Google has struggled to replicate this fluidity, but recent developments suggest a significant breakthrough is imminent.

In February, tech enthusiast AssembleDebug unearthed hints of Google’s ambitious Cross-Device Services project within Android’s settings. This feature aims to overhaul how Android devices interact, hinting at a future where users could move tasks and calls across phones, tablets, and Chromebooks effortlessly.

Now, an exciting new leak shared to PiunikaWeb by AssembleDebug provides the first glimpse of the tangible user interface (UI) for a core component of this system: call casting. Call casting, or call streaming if you may, mirrors the way Apple devices seamlessly hand off FaceTime calls. The leaked UI reveals a clean and intuitive design that is more refined compared to the previous UI. Your current device is displayed prominently, with the caller’s name, connection status, and call duration clearly visible. Most importantly, you’ll find options to “End Call”, “Switch Back” to a different device, and mute/unmute the call.

This development marks a significant leap toward a future where the frustration of dropped calls or awkward transitions between devices is a thing of the past for Google Pixel and other Android users. Imagine starting a Google Meet call on your Pixel phone, but then easily shifting it to your Pixel Tablet for a larger screen as you move to the couch. Cool, huh?

While there’s no official release date, the emergence of a polished call casting UI indicates that Google is moving closer to delivering a truly integrated experience for its massive user base — an experience that should move it a step closer to challenging Apple’s dominance in seamless device integration.

Below is a video (loads from our Imgur account) of the refined cross-device services UI that hints at an imminent release of the feature.
